Newfoundland Road Trip - 2018
August 19, 2018 – August 26, 2018 • 5 days
5-day Newfoundland road trip in August 2018 — driving routes and photos from Canada's easternmost province, including the Avalon Peninsula and Conception Bay.
About This Trip
5 days driving the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland, August 2018. Documented with phone photos only — no dashcam, no GPX tracking, no video. This predates the current GoMoveShift recording setup.
Newfoundland is one of the most remote and least-visited road trip destinations in North America. The Avalon Peninsula — the southeastern corner of the island — includes the Southern Shore (Irish Loop), Conception Bay, and the area around Salmonier Nature Park.
Practical Notes
- Driving: Right-hand traffic. Long empty stretches between towns. Newfoundland has one of the highest moose-vehicle collision rates in North America — caution required at dawn and dusk.
- Duration: 5 documented days across the Avalon Peninsula.
- Season: August is Newfoundland’s warmest month, but fog is common on the east coast. Temperatures are cooler than mainland Canada.
- Time zone: Newfoundland Standard Time (UTC-3:30) — the only half-hour time zone in North America.
- Documentation: Phone photos only. No dashcam, GPX, or video from this trip.
